There are many reasons couples seek therapy. Perhaps there are issues that seem unresolvable, or lifestyle choices that feel too disparate. Perhaps there’s been a breach of trust. Maybe there’s a major life transition happening – a marriage, a birth of child, a move or new job, or a loss of some kind – that is throwing the relationship off balance. Maybe you’re simply wanting better communication, deeper connection, or a more fulfilling sex life. We experience some of our highest highs and lowest lows in relationship, and the distress caused by a lack of openness and connection can affect all areas of our lives. Couples therapy can help you and your partner communicate better, deepen intimacy, and find new ways to be with each other. Although facing the issues preventing deeper communication can be frightening, the skills practiced in couples therapy have the potential to transform your relationship.

My couple’s therapy work is influenced by Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy, attachment theory, psychodynamic theory, and the work of John Gottman. I have also done a significant amount of Buddhist meditation practice, which encourages deep compassion, non-judgmental awareness, and a present-moment approach to relating.

I found my way to this work because of an intense need to understand and transform my own difficulties as well as a profound desire to help others move through the challenges and complexity of life and relationships. I have found it to be incredibly powerful and transformative and feel so lucky to be able to share this healing path.
